Frequently Asked Questions
What makes us different?
Our practice focuses on building value for clients in the land that they manage, whether this be financial value, ecological values or functional value that you will experience for years to come.
What do we do?
We do landscape-related projects from initial feasibility phases through master planning, site design, consultation, approval, detail design, documentation, tendering and construction phase services. We can act as Expert Witness, have done a wide range of planning submissions, visual analysis, urban design, revegetation and waterway repair projects.
Why shouldn’t I just get a landscape contractor?
If the work is straightforward that may be the best option for you. If there are a range of issues and problems, you want to get competitive quotes from competing contractors, or you want to do something a bit out of the ordinary that reflects your own lifestyle, then you need a landscape designer.
Why is it so expensive?
Good design takes time and experience – the cost will be recouped in being able to compare contractors quotes, in lower maintenance costs and may well help you avoid some very expensive mistakes!
How long will it take to complete the project?
Naturally the duration of the commission varies with the complexity of the project. If the brief is simple, small or with few stakeholders we can turn around a project within a couple of days, but other projects are lengthy or on-going.
We can generally provide you a program with key delivery dates on request. We will clearly communicate with you what information we need to commence the project, and if there are issues that delay planned timelines.
Can you organise other consultants for us?
Yes, we regularly act as head consultant on projects, coordinating a variety of sub-consultants such as surveyors, engineers, town planners, arborists, building designers, architects, ecologists, artists, graphic designers, community consultation facilitators and others. In fact Landscape Architects are well-placed to act as head consultants and project managers, ensuring that each consultant contributes to the project outcomes.
What information do I need to provide you?
The base information we require varies with the type of project, but we will discuss this with you at the time of appointment. We have access to high quality aerial images that provide basic spatial data suitable for concept design, but a features and levels survey may be required for detailed design.
What resources to you use for document production?
Our practice is equipped with the latest Apple Imac, Macbook Pro, iphone and Ipad hardware and we use AutoCAD, with Adobe Suite Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. We are also able to outsource 3D modelling and fly-through visualisation as project requirements dictate. Our office runs on 100% renewable energy.
